Events 2011

AMHEC prides itself on providing excellent networking and development opportunities through its annual Conference and Workshop.  Our conference is held around Easter with topics of current interest and speakers from sector organisations as well as experts and professionals from outside higher education.  Our workshop is held in September/October which is designed to be highly interactive with plenty of opportunity to discuss current issues and share practice with colleagues in the sector.

AMHEC Conference 2012 - bookings now open!

Conference title:     'Meeting Change with Change: The Chameleon Effect'

Date:                           Wednesday 28 March - Thursday 29 March 2012
Venue:                         University Of Chester

The title of this year’s Conference is ‘Meeting Change with Change: The Chameleon Effect'.  It comes in the wake of a year that has seen significant higher education policy change; the introduction of higher tuition fees,  reductions in teaching budgets,  launch of the White paper, publication of the Research and Innovation Strategy and the introduction of a core and margin model.  With the outcomes of the Technical Consultation still pending, we are about to enter a year of heightened competition with uncertain student and patterns of demand in a climate where only speculation surrounds the longer term strategy for student number allocation and control.  With such continuous change, how can we as institutions not only keep up but adapt to our new environment?

With presentations from key higher education agencies and high profile speakers, and with topics ranging from higher education financing to the political landscape, UKBA regulations and student attraction and retention, this conference will provide the opportunity to reflect on our journey to date, student demand for 2012 places, and the financial, organisational and political challenges facing us in 2012/13 and beyond. The full conference programme will be announced at the end of January 2012.  Look out on the website for speaker updates.

AMHEC Workshop, 20-21 October 2011

Workshop 2011: ‘The Key to Institutional Sustainability?’

AMHEC is delighted to confirm that the annual workshop 2011 will take place at Warwick Conferences, the University of Warwick on Thursday 20 & Friday 21 October 2011

Warwick Conferences is noted for their state-of-the-art residential facilities, customer service and award winning catering.  Further delegate information is available by clicking here, which includes access to comprehensive sports facilities including a gym and swimming pool.

The Workshop will focus on the uncertain and challenging financial future and the pressure on institutions to seek or enhance their alternative income sources, matched with a  concerted effort to identify efficiencies and reduce costs to ensure sustainability. Whilst undoubtedly there is no single model that will deliver success for the whole sector, this Workshop will provide an opportunity to discuss with fellow sector professionals the future of higher education funding (including the White Paper) and explore how HEIs are diversifying their income streams and identifying efficiencies, and the success or otherwise of such ventures.
